This month as part of my You Can Be Found Anywhere video series, I am in the New York City Subway system, talking about technical SEO. The inner workings and train lines in New York City are what keep everything running as smoothly and cleanly as possible. When the trains are down, it seems that the whole city stops flowing. In that same sense, it is very important to take care of the technical side of your SEO. Probably more important than ever.  The speed with which your pages loads, the importance of connections working and no duplication of effort or broken links or missed stops, has become more important than ever before.

Technical SEO a Big Part of User Experience

Technical SEO: Subway Service SignWhen my wife and I are in the city she often comments how she can’t imagine being a tourist or someone not speaking English with all the announced line changes and service outings that seem to always be going on. That doesn’t create a good user experience. Technical SEO is an important part of the user experience. Though “Content is King”, delivering that content in a clear and easy to use method is also important for users to find exactly what they need an get where they want to go as quickly and efficiently as possible.

When Google indexes your site one day and the next time the page isn’t there or follows a link to a page that doesn’t exist, or simply has to wait an inordinate amount of time for your page content to load, it is not going to want to present your content higher than a competitor who is doing it right.  It is important to understand how much technical SEO will help or hinder the user experience.

At the same time, coding technicalities and schema presentation can help your information to be presented in an easier to understand manner for the search engines to use and for users to digest.  Unlike the often confusing signs in the subway telling you this line is closed or to use this line instead of this line, your schema data can tell search engines that you are a local business, that you have reviews, that you are presenting a recipe or many other types of information.  Understanding technical SEO is critical to keeping your website trains running on time and efficient. We understand technical SEO so give us a call.
